Product description

Lobelia cardinalis mini – a compact decoration for aquariums and ponds

An extremely decorative stem plant with fleshy shoots and alternate leaves on short petioles. Its leaf blades are narrow, elliptical, and their edges are slightly serrated or saw-toothed, giving the plant a subtle elegance.

Decorative qualities

Its low form and intense colour contrast beautifully with the taller species planted further back in the reservoir, adding depth to the arrangement.

It works perfectly both as a dense clump emphasising the natural character of the aquarium and as a decorative path between other stem plants.

It also looks great when incorporated into larger roots and stones, where its colours really stand out.

In open aquariums Lobelia cardinalis mini can grow above the water surface, where it develops striking scarlet flowers.

In emergent conditions, the leaves regain their characteristic, intense colour, making this plant a unique decoration both under and above the water surface.

Not only underwater.

Thanks to its wide range of tolerated temperatures Lobelia cardinalis mini It works well not only in aquariums, but also in ponds, giving them a natural charm. However, it should be remembered that the plant is not winter-hardy and requires protection from low temperatures.

To ensure optimal plant growth, adequate lighting and fertilization of both the water column and the substrate are necessary.

The nature of light has a key influence on the appearance of plants!

  • In intense light and nutrient-rich soil, the plant produces large, round leaves ranging from light green to dark green. The plant itself gives the impression of being “massive”.
  • In poor light and with a lack of nutrients it grows too vertically, forming short but numerous leaves. The entire plant takes on a yellowish colour. Older leaves die off at the base, leaving only the stem.

Planting

Plant the seedlings in groups of several plants, 2–3 cm apart, so that light can reach the lower leaves. Otherwise, after 3–4 weeks, the lower leaves will fall off, exposing the stems and roots. If you have fairly large cuttings, you can cut them in half between the nodes (the places where the leaves grow) and plant the lower and upper parts to obtain a larger number of cuttings.
