Product description
Zoolek Aquatest NO3 is a complete kit for the precise measurement of the concentration of nitrates (NO3) in aquarium water. It enables their levels to be measured in the range from 0 to 150 mg/l, providing a clear picture of the quantities of the end products of nitrogen transformation in the tank.
Why measure nitrates?
Nitrates (NO₃) are the end product of the decomposition of organic matter and the metabolism of fish. Although they are considerably less toxic than ammonia and nitrites, excessive levels of these lead to a deterioration in water quality and disrupt the biological balance in the aquarium.
Without regular monitoring of the level of NO₃ it is difficult to assess the actual condition of the tank, which can lead to problems in the event of both an excess and a deficiency.
Elevated nitrate levels provide an ideal breeding ground for algae, and concentrations above 40 mg/l are undesirable in aquariums. At levels exceeding 80 mg/l nitrates begin to be harmful to fish, whilst above 120 mg/l they become highly toxic.
Nitrate levels too low It primarily affects the health of aquarium plants. Symptoms include stunted growth, and older leaves becoming paler or turning yellow, and in the long term, this leads to their death and to problems with the absorption of other nutrients. Deficiency NO3 może również sprzyjać niestabilności biologicznej i pojawianiu się glonów wynikających z zaburzonego bilansu składników (NO3 do PO4).
Responsible aquarium keeping
NO₃ test results provide valuable guidance when planning water changes, adjusting feeding regimes and assessing the efficiency of biological filtration.
Exceeding the recommended levels usually indicates an excess of waste products in the tank. Regular monitoring of nitrate levels helps to maintain stable conditions in the aquarium and ensures you can look after the health of your fish and plants effectively.
Purpose
Test Zoolek Aquatest NO3 przeznaczony jest do akwariów słodkowodnych, akwariów z roślinami, zbiorników z krewetkami oraz oczek wodnych. Sprawdza się zarówno w akwariach towarzyskich, jak i w zbiornikach o większej obsadzie, gdzie kontrola nitrates (NO₃) are crucial for the health of fish and the proper functioning of an aquarium.

Tip1:
If the Zoolek Aquatest NO3 test regularly shows elevated nitrate levels, it is worth taking a broader look at the functioning of the aquarium as a whole.
The most common causes of an overpopulation of fish are overfeeding, overstocking the tank, and insufficient filtration
The key to prevention remains regular water changes, monitoring the amount of food provided, and ensuring that the filter is in good working order and appropriately sized for the aquarium’s capacity.
Tip 2:
If you are struggling with excess nitrate (NO₃) (above 20 mg/l), the use of suitable filter media provides effective support. A good example is Seachem Purigen, which binds nitrogen compounds before they are converted into nitrates, helping to stabilise water parameters over the long term.
Tip 3:
If the nitrate (NO₃) level in the aquarium is too low (below 5 mg/l), which may affect the health of the plants, it is worth considering controlled supplementation of this element. In this case, the following will work well: N GREEN ONE, which enables the precise replenishment of nitrates in aquarium water.
Tip 4:
By using tests for the levels of ammonia and ammonium (NH₃/NH₄), nitrites (NO₂) and nitrates (NO₃), you can actively monitor the nitrogen cycle in your aquarium.
The point at which tests show no presence of ammonia or nitrites, whilst at the same time an increase in nitrate levels is observed, marks the end of the tank’s biological maturation. This is a sign that the aquarium is ready for fish to be safely introduced.
