Product description
Rotala Rotundifolia – Multicoloured plant
A stem plant with a delicate, symmetrical habit and thin, flexible shoots. It usually grows up to 20–40 cm tall, forming dense, compact clumps with a subtle appearance.
Construction and appearance
The stems are round in cross-section, straight and smooth, and may turn slightly red in strong light. The leaves grow opposite each other in pairs, are 2–3 cm long and up to 0.5 cm wide.
Their shape is elliptical or oval, and their colour varies from light green to pinkish or reddish, depending on conditions.
Growth and foliage
Rotala rotundifolia produces numerous shoots side shoots, which thicken the clump and give it a lush appearance. The shoots usually no grow above the surface of the water, but they spread just below its surface, creating an impressive, slightly wavy carpet.
Purpose
Rotala rotundifolia is a versatile stem plant recommended for freshwater aquariums — both decorative and plant-based, such as nature or aquascape.
It works well in the middle and rear parts of the tank, where it creates a dense, lively background and gives the arrangement a lightness.
Perfect for creating contrast with plants with darker leaves and for building natural Asian-style compositions. Thanks to its ease of shaping and rapid growth, it is also a great choice for beginner aquarists.

Cultivation Conditions
To ensure optimal plant growth, adequate lighting and fertilization of both the water column and the substrate are necessary.
❗ The nature of light has a key influence on the appearance of plants! ❗
- In intense light and nutrient-rich soil, the plant grows quite quickly, with the upper parts of the plant turning orange to red in colour.
- In a2>poor light and nutrient deficiency it grows more slowly, the whole plant turns green, and very short leaves form.
To further improve the condition of the plant, we recommend adding additional CO₂ to the water column. Its use significantly improves growth rate and density.
Lighting Requirements
General light requirements: Low / Medium
Recommended lighting power according to the technology used:
~ 0.5 W/L (T8/T5 fluorescent lamps)
0.4 W/L – 0.2 W/L (LED light)
~ 25 Lm/L (LED diodes)
Water Requirements
Water reaction: pH 5.5 – 7
Water hardness (GH) : 1 – 15
Temperature: 19 – 28 C
Planting
It is recommended to plant plants in groups among green-leaved species.
It is best to place several plants in the substrate at a distance of 1–2 cm from each other so that light reaches the lower leaves. Otherwise, after 3–4 weeks, the lower leaves will fall off, being covered by another seedling.
Once we have fairly large cuttings, we can cut them anywhere and then plant the lower and upper parts to obtain a larger number of cuttings.
