PhosEater – effective control of phosphates and silicates
A specialized filter medium that, thanks to its unique absorption properties, effectively reduces the concentration of harmful phosphates (PO4) and silicates, which promote the growth of algae (especially diatoms) and disrupt the biological balance in the tank.
Structure and operational efficiency
The deposit takes the form of small balls with a diameter of approximately 2–3 mm. This shape provides a very large contact surface, which translates into high absorption efficiency. At the same time, the spherical form allows water to flow freely through the medium, which minimizes the risk of flow blockage and increases efficiency.
The best working conditions work
PhosEater works most effectively in an environment with strong water flow. Therefore, it is recommended to use it in flow filters, sumps, or other solutions adapted to the size of the aquarium. Proper placement of the bed ensures maximum effectiveness.
Purpose
PhosEater is a high-quality synthetic phosphate absorber that also removes silicates from aquarium water. It can be used in both freshwater and marine aquariums.
In newly installed tanks PhosEater effectively prevents sudden and dangerous spikes in PO4 levels.
In mature aquariums, it reduces phosphate concentrations, stabilizing them at a safe, minimum level, thereby supporting biological balance and healthy development of the stock.

Before use – important!
How to use:
Apply initially 40 to 150 g PhosEater (approx. 35–167 ml) per 100 liters of water.
After 2–3 days, measure the phosphate level and assess whether the decrease in concentration is satisfactory.
- If the PO4 values have reached the expected level, the absorber can be removed.
- If the decrease is insufficient, leave the contribution for the following days until the desired result is achieved.
- If there are no results, increase the amount of PhosEater and check the parameters again.
Tip:
Not fully used up PhosEater can be dried and reused.
Absorber efficiency:
The average phosphate binding capacity is approx. 1.5–1.8 mg PO4/g.
These parameters are indicative and help estimate the amount of medium needed in a given tank. For more accurate calculations, use the calculator available on the manufacturer’s website.
Factors affecting effectiveness:
Actual performance may vary depending on many water parameters, including GH, KH, flow rate, salinity, conductivity, silicate (SiO2) content, and temperature.

For best results, place PhosEater as the last filter medium, just behind the sponge and ceramic.

In Malawi biotope aquariums, there is often a problem with elevated silicate levels, which promotes the mass growth of diatoms.
