It enables their levels to be measured  <\/span><b>in the range from 0 to 150 mg\/l,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> providing a clear picture of the quantities of the end products of nitrogen transformation in the tank.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Why measure nitrates?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Nitrates (NO\u2083)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the end product of the decomposition of organic matter and the metabolism of fish. At levels exceeding  <\/span><b>80 mg\/l<\/b> <b>nitrates begin to be harmful to fish<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, whilst <\/span><b>above 120 mg\/l they become highly toxic.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Nitrate levels too low<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It primarily affects the health of aquarium plants. Symptoms include stunted growth, and older leaves becoming paler or turning yellow, and  <\/span><b>in the long term, this leads to their death and to problems with the absorption of other nutrients<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
